Setting Up Your First Web Hosting Account   by Chris Puetz

You are finally ready to enter the Internet as a content contributor by adding Your Own website. But how does that all work? Setting up a web hosting account for the first time can be confusing and very frustrating for the beginner. This article will provide you with guidance so that you first experience with a web host does not become a disaster.

Setting up your web hosting account will depend upon many things. Most important is the question do you already have a website designed or build or do you want to use a site builder program offered by your future web host. The next question is about choosing a platform. Do you require a Windows Web Host or can you host your website with a Linux based web host? Linux is usually cheaper and easier to get compared to Windows web hosting. Unless you use a specific Windows related software (example: MS SQL Server) you are probably good with a Linux web host.

Once you have these questions covered the search for a web host will be on. There are literally thousands of web hosts to choose from. And to make it more confusing, it is difficult to find a good one without any help or advice. Most often you will fare best with a recommendation made by friends or family. Or maybe you have seen an ad in a magazine or on TV (Yes, the bigger players advertise nationwide). Often a smaller web host is a better option to go with as they offer a more personalized environment and better service (of course there is always for an exception from the rule).

Once you have chosen a web host, you have to make more decisions. Do you have a domain name already or do You Need to buy one? Many web hosts offer one free domain as a teaser for you to sign up. If not available at the web host at your choice, you are still fine. There is no need to pick a different web host. You can register a new domain name all by yourself at many places. Your new web host will most likely be able to make recommendations.

Now you are almost ready to get going. You can save money by paying for a year or more in advance. The good news is that you a) have most likely a money back guarantee for the entire amount or b) the amount not used will be refunded if you need to cancel for whatever reason. So, initially a longer contract seems daunting, but it is really just a great opportunity to save some monies.

From here on other important things will head your way, but if you made it until this point you are in good shape. Just hang in there and do not let yourself get frustrated by small issues or problems. Nobody was born as the perfect webmaster and it will come together in the end.
